This is a take-off from a figure in a painting by Elgar Hicks, used by Penguin for the jacket of Framley Parsonage by Trollope.
A kind of joke. It occurred to me that both the baseball catcher and the skateboarder of earlier days featured crouching figures, which tends to mean--if the figures are seen from the front--that their crotches are in or near the center of the drawing. And this made me chuckle at the idea of such athletes--normally quite well-clothed for protection--in the nude.
